Mosaic Turquoise Inlay Ring Repair

This poor vintage mosaic turquoise inlay ring has seen better days! My client first came to me to see if I could just replace the missing sections, but because of the extent of the damage they ended up deciding to replace all of the turquoise with a brand new turquoise mosaic that matched the original design.

(Pictured is the inlay ring when it first arrived to be repaired, missing large sections of the turquoise mosaic with crumbling parts in other sections.)

This was the other side of the inlay ring repair, where you can see more turquoise damage with crumbled pieces.

The first thing I did was make notes on the size and shape of the rectangles that made up with turquoise mosaic before I removed all of the old stones so I could start with a clean slate.

(Pictured is the ring all cleaned up with the original turquoise removed.)

I gave my client a selection of turquoise to choose from, and they picked a piece that had some nice brown patterning running through the blue stone.

I trimmed all of the pieces and laid them out how I wanted them arranged, with some pencil notes to let me know where they need to be when I put them together.

Once all of the pieces were carefully arranged in the ring, I can cut and polish the surface flush to reveal the new stone mosaic.
