14k Gold and Onyx Wedding Band Set Inlay Repair

14k gold inlay rings to be repaired. This is what they looked like when they came to my shop, missing the whole inlay or parts of it.

14k gold wedding bands with a 2mm inlay channel, both needing inlay repairs.

With no stones inlaid in on one ring and a broken turquoise inlay on the other, this client came to me looking to inlay both of these rings with a durable black onyx.

Because the inlay recess is very thin (only 2mm deep), I have to very carefully carve the onyx so the it fits perfectly along the ring shank.

I also try to do my ring inlays with the least amount of pieces as possible, with 3-4 stones going around the circumference for a more seamless look.

Once the stones are cut and fit with no gaps, I can affix them to the ring. From there, I can cut down the onyx so that it is flush with the gold before polishing the stones.
