Mediterranean Coral Earring Repair

This client came to me with a pair of her favorite Mediterranean coral earrings, where one of the pieces of coral came out. She also wanted them to be polished up.

As soon as they arrived, I ordered a nice little branch of coral since I didn’t have that in stock already. I carefully cut a new piece to fit in the space left by the missing coral.

I then went ahead and removed all of the pieces of coral to re-set along with the new piece just so more wouldn’t fall out in the future. I noticed that the original jeweler had used pieces of fibrous cardstock to prop the stone up in the setting, so I removed that and cleaned the recesses before putting all of the coral back in their settings.

A final polish really brought out the shine in these earrings and made them look brand new! My client was so pleased with my repair of her earrings that she ended up sending an inlay ring for me to repair too.
