Ways to Wear Figurative Pendants

Updated April 2026

Figurative pendants are a bit different from an everyday necklace. They require a bit more consideration—these pieces aren’t just styled, they’re placed.

There are two main elements that shape how they’re worn: chain choice and neckline.

Chain Choice

For figurative pendants, an omega chain is the most effective option. Its gentle structure holds the piece in place, allowing it to sit intentionally at or just below the collarbone.

I typically pair my inlay pendants with 2.5–3mm omega chains. Thinner options can work, but may not maintain the same shape—especially with heavier pieces.

In comparison, a standard chain (like a snake or box chain) allows the pendant to fall more freely, which can feel less controlled and less aligned with the form of the piece.

A mock neck top with a longer omega chain is a refined pairing for art jewelry.

Necklines

Necklines play an equally important role.

Scoop and square necklines create an open space for the pendant to sit within, giving it room to stand on its own—similar to how a piece is presented on a wall.

Mock necks or a higher crew neck can also work well. In this case, a slightly longer omega chain—or a simple extender—allows the pendant to layer cleanly over the fabric.

Neutral tones—black, cream, tan, or white—help keep the focus on the piece itself.

Avoid necklines that bisect the pendant.

Ultimately, it’s about giving the pendant enough space to stand on its own.
