My client came to me with a special ring of hers, but one of the light pink-purple stones cracked in it. She didn’t know what kind of stone it was, but wanted it to be as close to the original as possible.
When I received the ring in the mail, I was able to inspect the stone to determine what kind of stone it was. It seemed harder than something like a pink opal, so I surmised it must be a kind of jasper.
The stone on the broken side was slightly darker than the other side,
I knew exactly what would be the perfect color match for her inlay ring repair: this beautiful hyacinth jasper. It comes in many different colors, ranging from almost pinky-white to a deep red-tinted purple.
I sent my client pictures of the jasper and she agreed it was a perfect match.
Because the broken piece of stone wasn’t coming out easily, I had to drill the stone out by hand. Once I had a nice clean inlay channel, I cut the new piece of hyacinth jasper, set it, and cut all of the stones flush before polishing.
The new stone in this inlay ring repair can be seen on the right-hand side with a darker shade of hyacinth jasper, just like the original ring.
