How to Cut Hyalite Opal aka Bubble Opal

For a while now, I’ve been wanting to give back to the jewelry and lapidary communities (which are SO generous with their knowledgable backgrounds) by creating a few free tutorials to rouse more excitement for these art forms.

For my first tutorial, I figured I would take a stab at teaching how to cut the hyalite opal (also known as bubble opal) that you can find at the Rock Dreams claim in Milford, Utah since I had seen many people inquire on what to do with their rough material that they collected from this site.

You can find a more in-depth description of hyalite opal, the equipment I’m using, and more in the Youtube page description! And make sure to follow my channel if you’d like to be kept updated on lapidary and silversmithing tutorials. How to cut doublet cabochons is next, and I’ll be working on inlay videos soon!

Enjoying my free lapidary tutorials? Consider contributing to my video fund so I can get better video equipment to make better quality free tutorials for you!
